Description
GRANDPA’s TOY
Project car, has not been raced! Took eight (8) years to complete.
In 2018, this 2005 Subaru Legacy GT was no longer being driven on the street and was just sitting around gathering dust in the garage. It had 100,000 easy miles on it. So, (Grandpa) having built muscle cars many years ago, got together with a number of his racing buddies and associates (mostly engineers) and made the decision to build something different and memorable. Our team enlisted the best technical people we knew who were available on the West Coast, none of our folks, except the great teams from M-45 & FW Motorsports in Northern California had built a Subaru. However, each member of our group was very curious, experienced and knowledgeable about how to build a legitimate full-on race car!
The car presented here is really more suited to Time Attack / Road Racing. The car has the Spec B -6spd transmission, which uses the first four ratios from the STI gearbox, but on the straights, gear 5 and 6 are much taller than the STI gearbox and will provide a very scary top end. Everything on the car has been developed for ease of use. The custom Turbo, Heads and Cams are unique to this engine only and are the reason that our tuner- Travis Barnes of Snail Racing who has tuned 1000’s of Subaru’s stated that this engine is one of the most efficient he has ever tested. It will run all day because of the quality of the parts and the WPC & Cryo treatments that have been done to the Turbo, Cams and valve gear. Water temp stabilizes at 180 degrees and oil temps are 200 degrees the oil pressure idles at 55lbs. The Haltech Elite ECU and gauges provide a spectrum of information that can be used to evaluate and easily make changes as needed. Everything is fresh and ready to go! Of course anybody buying this car will have to set it up for them both with the interior and exterior suspension adjustments with the caster and camber and sway bar adjustments. There is also a front air dam that has not yet been installed on the car as of yet.
The windows are Lexan and can be quickly removed and replaced if need be. The roll bar is NHRA certified and overbuilt for road racing but is safe as hell! However, Grandpa says he is getting too old to drive this beast and is willing to sell it and about $9,000 worth of new parts and one old part (Engine cases) to someone who will take this to the track and have a ball! However, don’t waste Grandpa’s time with ridiculous offers. If you know anything about Subaru’s or building them you know they are not cheap to build! This particular Subaru uses only the very best parts and metal treatments Money can buy! Oh, and by-the- way, speaking of money, Grandpa invested $120,000 to build this gem! Please, very serious inquiries only! I have many more pictures that could be sent by email, as I could not get any of the other pictures I have reduced enough to include them in this format.
